Throwing an awesome Halloween party is a lot of fun and does not have to cost a lot of money. Every year I throw a great Halloween party and my friends and family rave about them every time. The key is to have great decorations, delicious food and drinks, and to give the guests something fun to do! After you have accomplished those things you will be known for having the best Halloween parties in town!
Let's start with the decorations. I believe you should not spend a lot of money to decorate for one day of the year. I like to do some different Halloween crafts to make some cute home and yard decorations. The easiest and most common thing you can do is make some jack-o-lanterns. Pumpkins are very cheap and having four or five of these around the porch and walkway are a great way to get your guests in the Halloween spirit. Another favorite craft of mine is Martha Stewart's milk jug ghosts! With only a few craft supplies you have the most adorable lighted ghosts.
After you have decorated the home, comes my favorite part, the food and drinks! I like to have a variety of delicious snacks that people can grab while they are talking and walking. Nobody wants to sit down to a big dinner, so keep things light and fresh. Some of my favorite Halloween snack ideas include: devilled eggs, meringue cookies in the shape of bones, baked brie with cherry topping and decorated cupcakes. The great thing about the cupcakes is you can find those at any bakery, and it will save a lot of time! For drinks we always like to have a variety of non-alcoholic drinks as well as one special cocktail. We typically serve "Witches brew" a variety of juices and alcohols. We mix it all together in a large cauldron and everyone loves the fun and festive drink!
Finally you have to give your guests something to do! One of my favorite ideas is to throw a pumpkin carving party. You have all your guests bring their own pumpkin and you give the rest of the supplies. Make it competition and give prizes for the first, second, and third place winners! After that think about having a pinata, where everyone can trick or treat with the goodies that are inside of it. Coming up with some creative ideas is the key to a successful Halloween party!
